The Tudors.
I mean these were seriously fucked up people. Henry VIII sending two of his wives to be beheaded without a pang of remorse.
On the day Queen Ann Boleyn's head was chopped off by a skilled French swordsman, this Fat Turd was enjoying himself with his next prospective Queen , Jane Seymour.
And his daughter Bloody Mary burns Protestants alive! Repeat BURNS HUMAN BEINGS ALIVE !
And then when his son Edward VI dies, Lady Jane Grey , a 17 year old teenager is Queen for 9 days. Bloody Mary gets the upper hand and arrests Lady Jane Grey and her husband- they are two innocent young teenage kids. Both their heads are chopped off. The young lad, her husband, is first- she watches in horror as his headless body is wheeled past her. Then it is her turn......
My God these people were cruel !!!

I think today most people don't even think of these historical events, or don't even know that these things happened.

What obsession people have today is Music, the latest soccer league scores etc.

Ahhhh, those were the days Ben. Simpler times hey?

Disappoint me.... Off with ya head! Ok the whole burning people alive may be judged as a tad harsh with the benefit of hindsight, but on the other hand consider the joy of the common man, ahem... people.

Grow some veggies, cook up some rabbit and think about a man, Henry VIII, that could tell the Pope to go forth and multiply, set up his own religion, invade France, twice, and constantly taunt the Scots and Irish, never something to be done lightly. In between he would play the lute and harpsicord and apparently had a fine baritone voice, in three languages and could shoot a bow as well as any soldier of the day. Let's not forget his success with the ladies.

The Tudors were of their time, a time when life was a blood sport. I have a grudging respect for them and in fairness to Henry, he is recorded as acknowledging "Two beheadings out of six wives is too many." So, he wasn't all bad, he acknowledged that at least.

Basically, I'll take your Tudors and raise you the Spanish of the same era.

Sorry to side track your thread Kristy, that's another obsession I guess, history, love it.

I wonder if Tudor women's feet were beautiful?
I'm sure they were!
But I doubt Henry VIII had a foot fetish.

Yeah those were simpler times.
-Africa was not discovered.
-Australia was not discovered.
-American colonization had just started by Sir Walter Raleigh and the Spaniards.
But the seas and rivers were pristine.

A recipe for rabbit started like this:
"First catch thy rabbit in the moors".

In fine, History is MY obsession.

My obsessions/interests are:

1. Self-Reliance and Sustainability - with particular interest in off-grid skills as practiced by my ancestors and people worldwide throughout history.
2. Gardening & Herbalism - growing my own fruit and veggies (I do not need to buy any in the shops) and I also concoct my own medicine & supplements from the medicinal plants that I grow (I do not take any conventional meds). I spend at least 1hr a day, everyday, working in my garden, it relaxes me.
3. History, with particular interest in ancient history and also the great depression, 1st & 2nd world wars - By knowing the past, we can know the future, as history tends to repeat itself.
4. Art & poetry - I draw and paint a bit and also enjoy doing Murals. I find that writing poetry is very therapeutic, so I guess my poetry writing is my shrink, ditto for art.
5. World News & Events - I spend at least 1 hr daily, checking what is going on around the world wrt to politics and earth changes, because what happens across the pond can have a direct or indirect impact on my life down here.
6. Ooparts & UFO's - I find it fascinating, so much out there that we are yet to understand.

Ignoring the fact that both continents were already inhabited, I just wanna know why in the history books when I was at school it says when Djan van Riebiek mos landed in the Cape he met Harry die Strandloper; now, how the fok did that maader get a name like Harry if that tief Djan was the first to meet him? That was my earliest awaking of the bullshit that apartheid was, feeding us kak history.

@ Rasgulla, the British named him Harry in the early 1630s when they took him to Batavia in order to train him in their way. His name was actually Autshumao and he was a clan leader or Chief, the correct terminology is up for argument.

When the Dutch arrived they found it far easier to converse in English than to learn the local tongue or teach the locals Dutch.

So when van Riebiek met Harry die Strandloper that's what Autshumao had become known as. van Riebiek was not the first European to meet him.
