Please forgive my ignorance on this topic but how and where would golden showers take place ? I've always wondered about the mechanics of this particular fetish

Easiest place is probably in a shower or bath.
For most it would be a once off mediocre experience unless humiliating or been humiliated is your fetiesh. It's not everyone's cup of tea ( or urine).

If it is a persons fetish, they won't look at it as being humiliated when received or humiliating when given.
