I admire your confidence, but as an outsider looking in, why would people invest in SA? The problem is with no investment, no jobs. I saw how tough things were last time I was home

As discussed, we are the most optimistic nation in the world...miserable, but optimistic, lol. ;)

Yes I agree with that analogy. The problem ma'am is optimism does not create jobs. What SA needs is new education system, which has more technical aspects, more blue collar workers

Totally agree...but with our optimism comes the life we live in La La land. We hope without reason, being disappointed at every turn but still we hope...

I love and I am proud that we are a country that can laugh at ourselves and generate hope and optimism. But the reality is "It's about to get REAL!" Well... actually it got REAL a while ago, but we were still living in hope?

At some point we have to face reality.

Business in all sectors have been affected negatively. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but this is not globally, its only in SA. Europe, US, Oz, NZ, Canada and Asia all steaming ahead nicely.

Ramaphosa has just gone on a big investment trip overseas to lure foreign investors. Problem is, not even the local corporates are investing in South Africa. We have had record outflows abroad for the last 6 years and its showing.

There is just too much uncertainty around the mining charter, power, electricity, failing state owned enterprises, corruption, unmanageable national debt etc. Zuma left us in a right big mess and his tenure was totally destructive to our nation. Ramaphosa is making all the right noises, but the 10 000 pound elephant in the room is land expropriation.

The country, and all those foreign investors are taking a wait and see approach. No one in their right mind is buying property or making long term investments with this dark cloud hanging over us.

Apparently this is all being finalized in August, when parliament decides which route they are going. We could rebound from this in a positive manner very quickly if there is stability and certainty. The money is sitting on the sidelines and would most likely flow in quickly.

However, if we decide to go down the Venezuela or Zim route, things are going to turn bad in a very short space of time.

I hope things work out, but I honestly do not have a positive view long term for SA.

The grass seems greener on the other side because there is more sh1t .
I was recently on a trip overseas and we still live in the land of milk and honey .
East block Europe plant a small veggie patch to grow food for themselves how many of you have done that to survive?
You have your maid and garden service and all the fancy cars and eat out too often . Stop moaning and crying because if you don't it's going to get a lot worse just my 2c

Eastern bloc? England etc is steaming ahead. Most of the shops are advertising for staff. The construction in England is immense, the true indicator of growth. My friends in SA are construction owners, and NONE of them have work in SA
