Its an insensitive question......for a very sensitive topic. Being in Southern Africa and touching base on this topic, in such a manner is mindlessness.

Its upto you to keep the thread running. In my opinion we should ignore this thread from this moment onwards.

HIV is highly manageable in this day and age. Someone infected who then manages their health, diet and sleep AND takes their ARV's meticulously will most likely after a while find their counts drastically lowered and be declared as "unlikely" to transmit the virus. As long as they continue to maintain vigilance about their regimen they remain healthy and may never experience full blown AIDS.

Having said that, like with anything else so personal, disclosure of your status - positive OR negative - is yours to give as you see fit and feel safe to do so.

Obviously, it would stand to human decency and sexual health responsibility for anyone infected with any STI to inform their sexual partner(s) before engaging in sexual activities out of respect, and to ensure that all involved parties can give informed consent and take the necessary steps to keep themselves safe.

In this deliciously fun purple world we all inhabit, one would hope that every punter, working girl and their partners are tested regularly for all STI's, including HIV.

As an interesting side note - did you know that the populace most at risk for contracting HIV are married women who are faithfully monogamous?

Why would anyone disclose his/her status here.

I would hope there is no need to disclose as any punter/wg should not be in this industry if infected. It's actually quite scary to imagine.

Stupid thread..

The topic of HIV/AIDs has been discussed before...just do a search

My 2cents, best is if each know their own status...we all take the risk in this purple world but if we all take the time to constantly take the necessary precautions and get ouselves tested regularly we can elimate the risks..

Testing is readily available..one can get over the counter test today and if you wish even a more indepth test made so easily accessible...

So no reasons not to know your status and if by any chance you are affectes, there are programmes and mechanisms in place to live a good long and healthy life...but in order to live that long and healthy life one needs to know their status.....

A sure way to start a debate.
Notice it is Ice's 2nd post only, hence she is still under moderation. Best for her would be to elaborate...time wise she is at the mercy of the ESA moderation process.

Many years back I was working in a neighbouring state where Aids was very prevalent. One of my colleagues was very sick and word leaked from the work clinic he had aids. He went on the newly introduced retrovirals and soon was almost back to normal. It scared me to think he would now be able to pass on the infection to unsuspecting partners, and passed on this worry about use of antiretrovirals.
However, I think my concerns were overblown as the ARVs reduce the viral load to such low levels as to be pretty much uninfectious. But don't know if TOTALLY uninfectious. It's a worry, maybe I am more ignorant on this than I should be. Managed to avoid any STI in my many years of punting (always condomise), and looks like some of those have got some nasty strains out there.
