When shops (not Cafe's) would close on weekdays at 5pm, Saturdays at 1pm and not open on Sundays at all. You could not buy anything but food and other essentials after hours.
You could not buy car spares after hours except at emergency shops where you had fill out a little form.
PS Ben, please don't assume everybody is illiterate.

When you had an arguement on the phone with someone and could slam the phone down.

It's just not the same anymore with cellphones.

Remember when people couldn't reach me on my cell because there were only landlines.

How easy it was to switch off.

These days getting arrested for drinking and driving is like a status symbol , it means you can afford a car booze and petrol !
The food old days are gone gone forever I'm afraid
We didn't even have to budget for petrol in those days

Bbwlover, you made my day, or week
Got arrested last week for drunken driving after having half a bottle of Klippies and Cola. The reason? I was smelling of booze and my eyes were red(I did a lot of welding that day)
I wasn't even supposed to be at that roadblock, I went past my destination because there was a lot of obviously drunk people around this 2 lonely policemen. Being an ex- cop myself (from many moons ago) I only wanted to help, but got arrested
Where are the days when the SAP escorted people home that was drinking, but not drunk
