I'm probably going to get some flack for this, but I believe one of the main reason men get caught is because they overestimate how clever they are and underestimate their wife or partner.
Men marry or commit to a woman for a reason. That reason rarely includes the woman having some form of intellectual deficit. Men for whatever reason start to over estimate their ability to handle a secret wife forgetting that they did not marry a fool in the first place.
It does not matter the reasons for entering the world of puntership. There are more reasons that there is space for here, but the man's justification for punting is usually a totally different thing to a wife or partner's understanding of the concept.
The wife might be hurt, jealous, some might accept it because at least you aren't bothering them now, others believe that it is an opportunity for a decent divorce settlement or might have any number of other reasons why they feel the need to confirm their partner's infidelity. 9/10 times they will ultimately be successful. What she choses to do once she finds out is down to her.
Remember, the punter has to be successful in their deceit every single time, the wife only has to confirm her suspicions once. It's a lot less work for her to confirm you are punting than it is for you to hide your punting.
If you do not want to be caught, the first thing to do is not to underestimate your wife or partner and not believe that you punting tradecraft is infallible.
