I actually find overseas more expensive depending what is purchased. You will never get a McDonald's meal for R40.
The few places I've been to it costs like R80 to R100 for a basic meal

I think he was in Mozambique for a while!

I travel a lot overseas and believe me that SA is relatively expensive now - food in shops overseas is the same price as here!

Such animosity to a simple observation. The cost of living is higher. For the record I have lived and earned in SA so I have a pretty good point of reference.

I'm definitely seeing atleast a 25 to 40% price increase in products. Food, pharmaceutical and petrol being the ones I have experienced so far. Essentials have definitely skyrocketed in price. I am not comparing punting prices but it seems as though ladies have kept their prices fairly consistent or at times reduced them to get business.

I have yet to walk out of any shop where my bill is under triple figures. If you finding it normal, then no offense, my analogy to boiling a frog in terms of prices is correct. Again there was no intention to offend but the reality of it certainly hit home.

Agreed, now take into account the minimum wage in say the UK which is 7.70 (R141.52) a bacon double cheeseburger costs 1.99(R36.56) not sure of SA price. Biltong last year in SA was R199.99 this year R299.00 a 50% increase so no boiling frog

At no point did I compare UK/overseas prices to SA prices. My point of reference is from living in SA and remembering what I had initially paid for similar products.

I paid R11 for a packet of Marie biscuits, I remember this being t the R8 mark. Petrol went up from R700 to almost R1000 for a tank, corenza C cost me R149 , maybe it was because medical paid for it and i paid no attention but I am certain it was priced in the double figures before I left. I have to look at the slips again but my pocket certainly felt the burn.

This brings me to the ladies, those threads where you highlight expenses now make complete sense and take my understanding to the next level. Im sure this has been the slow boil experience for most when it comes to finance but holy crap this country is bloody expensive!

surprise

Holy Moly

wtf

oh oh

what?

like really?

i never bothered to read the news.....oh my

Now what?

Your sarcasm is noted Lalaa, I was aware that the cost of living had increased but experiencing the reality of how much it increased is an eye opener.

Earnings are higher, therefor relative to total earnings the price is less expensive
