For our company's recent trips in S.A,we decided to drive instead of flying.These road trips have given me a completely different view of the country.We have been met with such generous hospitality during our stop-overs at the little...not so famous...towns.On some occasions we actually decided to book a B & B and just explore the area a bit more.
Many of these towns did not entertain all races before, and even some a stop-over was not even allowed. Now having a cup of moerkoffie with oom and tannie in the morning , has become part of our travels.
The expat guys, that visit with me,now have a total different view of S.A.
I am in my fifties, and the only sadness and regret is that I wish I had a chance to do this before.
There is a truly beautiful land and an extreme diverse culture out there, that has somehow managed to co-exist, and in my opinion, each South African should explore and experience for at least once in their lifetime.
For this, your attitude needs to change from that "Urban Techno Maestro" to going back to some rural roots.
Try it....You will remember this post ....just remember not to say:"semensquirter" said this....LOL

I've learned that we are a friendly, compassionate and caring nation. Our standard of living is so high that a middleclass person in SA lives the life that billionaires live abroad. Our scenery, nature and out doors lifestyle is superior to many other places.
I remember jumping on a subway in mid winter going to the airport and looking around only to find not a single person smiling, nobody greeted me and everyone just looked gloomy. The next morning I landed in SA and was warmly welcomed from the moment I got off the plane. I went home and in the street was a drunk guy that was laughing and singing as he walked. I'll never forget thinking to myself, why the fuck am I not living here.
