So in honour of the family saviour, you should dress like a Basotho for Heritage day...or maybe better...book a Basotho lady for the day...LOL

Good to hear stories of/from people that are directly connected to the original settlers/immigrants.
Are there any others on ESA,that have a direct traceable line to their forefathers?

Only if you identify as a Basotho lady for the day, or you could be accused of cultural appropriation

wrt tractability; on my father's side we can trace back to 1664. The guy was a mason and came specifically to help build the castle.

Boss, that's freaken amazing!!
Would be even better if you dig into the archives and discover that the bugger was not only a mason but a Freemason, and on top of it he was a punter in the 1660's!

That's awesome! It's great that you know the history of your bloodline going back hundreds of years. And I think your forefathers passed the Nats' ridiculous "pencil test" that classified them white again, lol!

I always say that more than half the whiteys from Pretoria are actually colored.

In Cape town southern suburbs a load of coloreds can actually pass for white. And on the Cape flats almost every group of friends have a friend whose nickname is "boere"!

Anyway it's a cool story you mentioned. The Anglo Boer War is considered a battle between the British and the Boers, but history has erased the role of black and colored people during that time.

Also, my english speaking wit friends with British ancestry always say they don't know what the Afrikaners till today cry about that war when it was the Afrikaners who started it. Eish.... white on white arguments.... lol

sure! the afrikaners started it by planting gold and diamonds and inviting rhodes to come for a treasure hunt i guess...

nobody has clean hands in history. lets just fix it going forward!!!

We hate them for the same reason the Jews will always hate the Germans.

"Concentration camps".

The Brits killed tens of thousands of innocent women and children, and now want to act if they did nothing wrong.

Fcking Assholes.

I think it was late last year or early this year where a British MP Rees-Mogg stated that the concentration camp cannot be compared to the Nazi ones since the aim was not extermination of a people.

He also said that the Boere women and children were put in camps for their protection and safety.

Probably an attempt to whitewash the British complicity in the deaths of 28000 whites and 20000 blacks during that time.

Obviously the Anglo-Boer war holds a deep emotional resonance with Afrikaaners. Which, ironically, should make white people understand that the aftermath of institutionalized apartheid will simirlarly resonate for decades to come among non-whites in our country.

yip. no easy answers.
the MP was right, they ladies were not locked into the camps, but all food and or means of survival was burnt so they had nowhere to go but the unhealthy camps. that is why it was called the scorched earth policy.
terrible times and we should learnthere are no winners from fighting
