Do they shower with their watch or put itback on after shower.
I wear my running whatch. But when I undress I take it of and put it with my cloths. Never shower with it and never do a booking with it on.

Seems almost all watches are waterproof nowadays, because some never take them off for before or after showers/baths.

So with a DIY service you get your step count up now and then lol...

That only when your handa/arm moves is cheating on the watches part.. it won't count half the steps you take, because how often do we walk from point A to point be holding on to something ( carrying something) that prevents us from moving our hands/arms...? They should turn those things into ankle straps rather.
