This movie made such a deep impression on me because of the many parallels between a Geisha's life and the life of a transwoman. I felt compelled to buy Arthur Golden's book upon which it was based, after seeing this masterpiece of a movie. (Interesting fact, the very first Geishas were men.) I was also inspired to write this little poem ...

When I first delved into the history of the Geisha, I was very intrigued to discover that the very first Geishas were in fact men.
