One of the most important reasons for the acronym having so many letters, that stand for all these different identifications, is because the community does not want anybody (or group) to feel excluded. Exclusion has been the cruelest weapon inflicted upon the LGBTQIA+ community. Our community is so inclusive that we even included a letter just for our ALLIES. We appreciate you more than you realise.
Why two T's ... Transgender and Transsexual? Transgender is an umbrella term that includes all individuals that have a gender that's different from the sex assigned at birth. Transsexual is more specific. We identify as the gender opposite to the sex we were assigned at birth. We occupy the gender binary. So, we are both victims and perpetrators of the gender binary. We usually seek medical intervention to align our bodies with our gender.
I had a client, not so long ago, who had his first Transwoman Sexperience "by accident". He told me that, at the end of his birthday celebrations, he landed up at a popular gay club in Illovo (thanks to his Sister and her girlfriend). This particular club used be a favourite hangout for me and "my lesbian posse" - until it got overrun by straight patrons, but that's another story for another day. Anyhow, he met this hot chickadee ... Ended up back at her place ... Only discovered that she was packing a sucKullent surprise when they "got down to it". I told him that I get his gripe, but that it is a necessary part of a process. We are heading towards a future (see video below) wherein these letters/labels will most probably become obsolete, but until then, this is what we have. TONY STARK (Robert Downey Jr) said, "It's an imperfect world, but it's the only one we've got" (IRONMAN). We can't get from here to there in one big leap. As TEAL SWAN says in the video, it will be like expecting your fellow human beings to jump the Grand Canyon.
