I read, on the forum, that you should avoid putting your punter SIM in a dual-sim phone because they can use IMEI no. to see what other SIM is on your phone.

Happy to confirm this is NOT true. Each SIM on a phone has its own IMEI no. and, effectively, acts as an independent phone from the perspective of the network provider.

This is good news for those of you who'd be hard-pressed to explain a random phone being found.

You can confirm this by checking your IMEI (*#06#) on your dual-sim phone where you'll see two numbers, not one.

In the beginning the imei number was even printed on the sim card. The actual reason why u dont put ur punting sim in the same phone u use every day is because your phone is always on.

Ive never read about what you wrote.
Clients always say get a punting phone. Not a punting sim.
Meaning you can switch ur phone off when u not using ur punting phone. Or you need to switch ur sim off via your settings on your dual sim phone

Exactly. You can switch the SIM off when not using it.

Punting phones are fine if that works for you. Letting people know that punting sims are also okay.

It's also okay to remove the SIM card after your adventure from your dual sim, then you're really off grid.

Only issue is apps on your phone, some track, some show notifications, some store messages - your punting SIM will still use the app storage and potentially keep data, like if you add WhatsApp etc. Depends how hard you're trying to be private I guess.

Also some phones have "Second Space"- it's brilliant, even supports a separate email for the other accounts playstore (other phone) - essentially your phone has two phones in it and two unrelated unconnected sets of apps. Only activates when you switch to it based on what pin you enter. And in each "phone" you can switch on and off your sims in your dual SIM phone and what you store on there isn't visible on the other "phone" gallery.

This is an awesome thread for those who need to know. Nice one to the OP

If there is a way of putting a 2nd sim in an Apple phone, please enlighten me/us.

Must say to be using a non-Apple phone for punting is one of life's biggest frustrations. On many occasions i have nearly thrown my punting phone against a brick wall!

As Sagat would say, Iphone's sa gat

Trying throwing the iPhone away

But if you must, you can probably use a eSim for your main sim and then use the physical sim tray for the punting tray.

____

Has anyone experimented with a eSim from an international carrier, as a punting sim. As far as I recall, they'll don't ask for much info when buying one.

No, this incorrect. The IMEI is unique to the phone. What you are referring to is the IMSI, the sim card serial number. When your cell phone registers on the network, both the IMEI the IMSI is used in the registration process. The log records at the SP records the IMSI against the IMEI so it is easy enough to find "related" sim cards like the two sim cards in your phone.

The thing is, someone has to get a court order to look up that sort of information.

However, each SIM slot has its own IMEI no on most, it not all, dual SIM phones but yes, also, court order.

Don't stress about "IMEI"

Stress about backup settings..

If you have a Google account and social media.
Also if you use your banking app to load airtime.

It will link that number.
And that's a big no no

Rather stick to separate phones.
No accident of using the wrong number to call.
I would not even suggest using "Secure folder"

I can't tell you how many times I overlook this type of stuff I find in corporate devices.

Go buy a burner phone and Sim at your local.
It will be less then a punt, but will save you the headaches.

I have a phone with dual SIM, but my punting SIM in never in my phone. Some phones allow you to clone WhatsApp, I think Samsung allows it. So you use the punting SIM to set up cloned WhatsApp and then I just put the SIM in my phone every three months to buy about R5 airtime to keep SIM active.
