I'm learning more about Indian people on here than I have my whole life, and I'm Indian as well.

Thank you for the informative and funny discussion guys.

When I visit my folk in Lenz, good manners dictate that I should also eat like them: that us to say, with my fingers.

It is indeed an art.
You gather a morsel of rice on the side of your plate, add bits of kachoomar and mango achaar, make a little ball of the ingredients, and then deftly fling it into your mouth with your forefinger and middle finger without spilling the contents.

You may have witnessed this noble art at an Ocean Basket.

I'm Not Surti nor am I Muslim but I love Kirri-kitchiri. That thing is tops!!

@Ben ah the good ol fingers. I live and work with wit ous (no offence) mostly and the cuisine all has to be eaten with utensils. When i get back home to SA, wash my hands thoroughly and dig into the curry, rice, atchaar or salad.

Are all the slumous and charous crawling out of the wood work here? Madhirs!! lol

@Avenger25, the question now is are you a roti boy or a porridge boy? Lol

Tell me about them jaavers! I laugh when I see them eat roti or naan & curry with fork & knife at indian restaurants!

Orpheus buddy you forgot to say eat paan and spit whilst tjooning kak. I dont chow paan, it fucks up one's teeth.

Now you guys bring on the memories!
I remember my Dadi say to me when I was a kid:
Betaa, kahaa hai mera paan dhabba?
I dutifully brought it to her.

It was filled with paan leaves, supari, sawf, and a white paste to bind it all.
I really believe she would have won Masterchef for her sugar beans and roti.
She pronounced sugar beans "sooger bonkies".
"Bonkies" for the Afrikaans "boontjies".
We lived on a farm.

Just ask Nadia; on the cape flats they call sugar bean curry BOENCHIE KERRIE! My family always laugh at me at family gatherings where some auntie made sugar bean curry and i say: "please pass me the boenchie kerrie".

My nani never chowed paan but ironically my dadi also was the one who chewed paan.

Joh, seems charous really are the biggest punters lol!

@Ash1. ..The most hilarious thing I've seen was when I was in uni and working part time in one of the big departmental stores ... We ordered bunnies for our department and the our supervisor a white lady starts to eat this.....
WITH A FORK AND KNIFE .
..
I was rolling with laughter

Required reading for Ms Claire Holidae.
We are not all the same!
I wonder what happened to her?
