One major problem in this situation is the unbridled efforts of our major media to create sensation. Even the esteemed SG on SAFM falls prey to this. A hint of instability or friction and endless probing interviews follow; rather like a dentist drilling for a nerve.
I am still hopeful - I believe RB too - that positives can lie ahead.
We wanted change; we got it at the polls; not everyone's ideal (perhaps no-one's..) but a shift from 30 years of status quo. Now we must hope that jointly they will make a go of it.

What concerns me though, is that EFF/MK becomes the official opposition. They will have all the interest in the world to drive a wedge into the GNU.
And any short term costs in the adjustment process will be used to say the GNU policies are bad.

I have no doubt that there will be some shift to the "lets try the Zim option" ala EFF/MK. Just hope it is not a big shift and GNU can deliver.

This raises another important matter that the authorities (incl. IEC) should address before next round of elections. TOO MANY PARTIES!
Of the 52 on the National Ballot only 18 made it to parliament; what a waste of energy and resources! And an unnecessary dilution of the actual vote, combined with confusion and disaffection for potential voters.
And then of those 18: 3 hold only 1 seat and 5 hold 2 seats.
What difference can they make to changing the future of the country - other than to vote where the biggest personal incentive for them lies? Another inherent fuckup.
We need legislation of some sort to cut out the mickey mouse players and allow a more robust contest.

I completely disagree. Hope we never ever come to a 2 party country. The smaller parties add more colours to the rainbow, and increases our representation. It is quite clear that due to low voter turnout, that we still don't have parties that represent everyone.

The value af small parties are that they can bring private bills to Parliament in relation to the constituencies they serve, especially if your issue is not mainstream yet. They may fail, but it provides a good reflection of where society views fall.

Views of people being useless and diluting etc is just disrespectful to the electorate and the reason why you don't want this kind of polarisation (which normally comes with 2 part states ... it's us or them or they the useless bunch who don't vote ... and more default to the useless bunch over time).

Now anyone want to start a sex worker party. We just need one seat in the next election. And then we can fuck all the other parties .... (figuratively, and literally if you wish).

Democracy is better when even minorities wield power and can sit a the same table as the majority. Otherwise we really just have 2 dictators fighting with each other.
