So what was supposed to be a wonderful weekend away, turned into a very weird situation...

On the way to my destination, my car's clutch decided it's the perfect time to break just outside Nylstroom! Not knowing the area or anyone there, I was stranded!

Along came two guys in a bakkie.. One was dressed in a pink shorts, long army type jacket and crocs...the other had ripped jeans and a tshirt.. They had a look at my car and said its the clutch. I was panicked and didn't know what to do next... Don't stress, they said, help is on its way. They arranged for a breakdown truck to take my car to their house. Now, take note...I dont know these people in the least bit. But help was offered, and I had to take it.

So now Im at their house...out comes an older auntie.."come feel this" she says. Without a doubt, I follow her inside.. In the kitchen, is an old "coal" stove, heated up and warming the whole house. "come warm yourself up" she says. So here I am in strangers house, stranded in a place that I dont know at all.

Suddenly they start a fire, because "nou gaan ons braai!" Never in my life, have I met such accommodating people. I could see that they didn't have much, but they gave me a hot plate of food, a roof over my head and a place to sleep until I could get a lift back to Centurion.

I'm in such awe of their generosity and helpfullness! I never thought that a person can still get people that will go out of their way to help someone else...Take a stranger into their house and offer them much needed help! Thank you to those people that helped me in Nylstroom! I will be paying it forward, by helping someone that is in need!

This country is so fucked up and yet so amazing!
Sometimes you looze all hope and sometimes it is just so wonderfull.

I read over the weekend about Coligny. The medical Dr there says he was so upset when his everything was burned down (presumably by black people). Next thing as he was standing next to the house burning down, 2 black people in a bakkie arrived, trying to help him save posessions and trying to help him.

I really think racism is mostly a political thing, mostly stoked and kept alive by politicians. We ordinary people actully get along quite nicely!

Sorry for adding this to your nice thred, but thought tis also demonstrates how nice many (most) ordinary SAcans are!

Beautiful observation anyway in light of what's going on around us these days! Think these kinds of things need to happen more often!
