@Arwhen, hats off to you again! Admitting something like that takes great character, given that it's probably something that others have tormented you for since learning to read and write. I knew kids in primary School who were sent to special schools and were teased for being 'stupid' but were far from it in reality who were also Dyslexic.

Thank you miss Vee as a child growing up it was but I've learnt it doesn't make me stupid it makes me unique ;)

My son to is dyslexic and my daughter being a real walking talking Oxford dictionary (not a googling Queens enligsh pro) and had a bachelor's pass last year, use to hound him. When she realised it makes him more nervous so much so that he can't spell a word he just got right less than two minutes ago she stoped. Needles to say last year my son being in grade 1 came home with diplomas for outstanding achievement in English Africans and Math. This year he relocated to a new school in the beginning of May. His second term at hia new school he had received a award for being in the grade 2 top 10 and he placed 3rd May I add that he was at a disadvantage as he didn't do some of the work that they done in the new school.

So no dyslexia does not mean one is stupid but uneducated people who don't know any better will treat them as if they are ;)

Should we take this topic to another aspect other than dyslexia.

What about people that have not been afforded are in the industry that never finished school. They left their families to join this industry probably to give their children a better life than they had. Maybe to look after a ill or disabled family member.

The grammar nazi'so look down on them not knowing half of who they are or where they come from.

does it make them lesser than the grammar nazi's no not at all. In fact I take my hat off to these people?

Grammar nazi's think they all that when in reality they are not the are egotistical assholes that look down on others because that's the only way they will feel good about themselves.

Now let's move on to people from different background and culture.

English is not their fist language yet they try. I don't see the grammar nazi's trying to communicate in their language (Google doesn't count) So ill give them 10/10 for trying and the grammar nazi's a big fat zero again because they look down on others. These people are trying to communicate in a language that is not their mother tongue.

Yes I know English is a international language yet it is not taught in all schools.

Should I carry on???

I think not I believe I said enough so the grammar nazi's that think they are all that can see how narrow minded they really are.

100% Arwhen! I used to be that way inclined when I first started posting years ago, but I have learnt all that you mentioned above from various ladies and clients I have met and conversed with over the years and realized that I was being very unfair to anyone that I may have ostracise given that I was no English major myself and these days, lots of black ladies and even Afrikaans ladies try their best to convey their thoughts regardless of the language barrier. As you say, I take my hat off to them too for putting themselves out their despite English not being their first language! Miss B is one of them and even she is trying to now learn Afrikaans, lol. It's a bit of a joke between us really, but she is learning!

Indeed English is a strange language or maybe it is just that the English are very strange people. If you are in England and you knock on someone's door at 6.30 in the morning they may tell you "He is not up yet" or they may tell you "He is not down yet" and the two statements mean exactly the same!

Then the spelling
How do pronounce the word "ghoti"
Answer -- fish. gh as in cough, o as in women, and ti as in motion.

English is a very difficult language to master, even for English speaking people. If one can get a message across clear enough for others to understand, I would say that is a successful attempt at communication, the sole purpose of language if you ask me!

I only came to appreciate Shakespeare long after high school/College. My love of the English language was born more from the joy of reading then being taught about grammar etc. That was tedious and boring to me as a youngster.

Nothing better than a good book(as long as it's not a novel) and a soft blankie.
