Following from Ben Layden.
Speed doesn't kill, it's the sudden stop that does.
Also someone mentioned the Autobahn.
Yes I have safely driven on a section of the Autobahn at 250+. However, the lanes are wider and there are no potholes or animals on the road. When traffic increases or mist or rain settles in a speed limit of 120 or less is imposed by means of the large overhead gantry electronic boards. Believe you me when that sign changes, every single person on the road slows down. Discipline is just lacking in S.A.

Semantics my dear sir, semantics.
If you were not driving at top speed, there would be no need for a sudden stop.

People have an inflated sense of their importance when they get behind the steering wheel of a car.
For goodness sake, it's only a fucking car!

Pray, why should a person deserve more respect because he/she drives a fast car?
If you have run the Comrades marathon in under eight hours, yes, oh yes, then you deserve my respect.
But any fool can drive a fast car.

If speed kills then why are fast cars still being manufactured....in my opinion both Knibbler and oom Ben are correct.....accidents don't just happen, they are caused by someone or something. It's the maturity and confidence of the person behind the wheel to be able to anticipate a scenario and drive accordingly so that he can react within reason to an event. Our country's driver certification program is so riddled with loopholes and corruption that it's easier to get a drivers liscence than pass grade one. Until proper law and order prevails we will always have high accident rates
