I cannot confirm or deny the accuracy of the rapid tests over that of blood tests, only that a friend of mine contracted Chlamydia from her lover. They routinely used the rapid tests but the 'C' only reared its head when he visited a pathologist.
Rapid testing has a larger window period than that of blood tests. It could be that the rapid test was done to soon after exposure. That is why as an example it is recommended that in the case of HIV rapid testing at 30 days that a follow up test be done 90 days after exposure.
I think for most people though the cost and time (receiving immediate result) benefit of rapid testing over lab tests outweighs the risk.
