It was years since he felt loved. He could not remember when was the last time he thought about it or, even cared to think about it.
But as that aloneness started to take a grip on him, he began to look around at those in the same restaurant as he, the coffee shops and even at the airport and hotel lounges.
He found it tedious and heavy to continue to feign interest when booking for sex, a need that wanted satisfaction and the minute it was done, he had no desire to look at or chat with the female who had drained his balls.
He just wanted her to leave, the quicker the better. He wanted his room back to himself.
And because it didn't carry much value , to pay for sex became less frequent.
He liked the unattached life, the no responsibility lifestyle for, his job took him everywhere and anywhere. It made it that much more simpler.
He saw parts of the world so beautiful and that was what eventually got to him.
Who to share it with. Who to get lost in the magic with and then wine and dine and spoil and treat in any manner, spontaneous or planned.
At 47 he knew the best of his life was still to come.
Best of his life? How was he going to do that...the best of his life?
What did that mean?
There was not much he had not done nor had the pleasure of so ,what next?
A family?
At 47 what did a family look like for him?
He realized his selfish need to be alone was now turning into loneliness.
He got up to leave, not really looking where he was going, far away was his mind and as he began to walk away a little kiddie patted on his arm
"Mister. Your forgot your wallet on the table. "
He looked down at a smiley face pointing toward his table and , behind it he saw the kiddies' mother sitting with another child, both beaming at him.
"We couldn't let you go without your wallet." Said the lady." I know what it is like getting cards and stuff sorted out. The nightmare!"
He liked her. There was something attractive and comforting at the same time.
"Thank you. " said he and walked away.
"A nice gentleman mummy. You should ask him to join us. I think he likes you.
And as he walked into the cool eve he wondered how the kid could have known that he had liked what he had seen .
Who knew. Maybe if their paths should cross again he just might sit at their table and enjoy the company of what looked like a happy mum and her kids.
He had nothing to lose...even if his first impression might be wrong.
It was time to live the best years of his life.
