Human Rights day
There I was, walking when I noticed him across the road.
I call people like him
"New Street People".
What caught my eye was that his knee long shorts were still clean. His shirt still bright with colour. His skin not yet affected by the harshness of life on the street and his hair still had a sheen.
His bag tucked behind his back, sitting on a "clean" sponge, a blanket folded next to him.
I wanted to vomit.
It was the way he sat. I stopped and pretended to be on my phone and watched him.
What went through my head was..."what was going through his head".
His whole body language said it all. The slump was horrific.
And then he looked up and straight at me.
I didn't divert my gaze. I smiled.
He smiled back at me. Sad sad SAD beaten gaze back at me ....fukkkcccccc.
Waaaaaaaaa!!!!
I finished what I needed to do and went back the way I came. I wanted to see him again.
I don't know why nor do I really know what I would have done. But I do know I wanted to talk to him.
He wasn't there.
The street people are not getting less.
If anything poverty is becoming an ever growing pandemic at a frightening rate.
Human Rights....the right to a better life.
The dawn of democracy in SA...what a farce and insult to the right to a better life and Human Rights.
