I was wondering if some WGs were considering taking USD from foreign clients given the current massive weakening of the ZAR against the USD.

The problem is always that the client uses the conversation rate, failing to take into consideration that we still have to exchange it and that the bank buys at a lower rate as well as takes commission. I have no problem, as long as the client takes that into consideration. Kisses, Mynx

What has the weakening of the rand have to do with it?

Speculating in currency is risky period and what people seem to forget is the 52 week "High" exchange rate is still higher than the current rate. The rand has recovered before and no one knows without some inside knowledge as to what will happen yet. 2 years ago banks were predicting 19 to the dollar but instead the Rand recovered somewhat.

You can have a million Dollars cash on you but when walking into the supermarket will have to find someone to buy some dollars from you before you can buy a loaf of bread as the only currency shops will take is rand and as pointed out buy and sell rates are very different amounts.

Look at the trend for bitcoin and try workout the underlying value, it has nothing to back it up, admittedly most currencies don't but are backed by government central banks and ultimately taxpayers. Bitcoin "value" has skyrocketed in line with the amount of time it has been in the news touted as the new utopia, the next best thing, pet rock anyone?

My American clients pay me 100 dollar for an hour which is more than my fee in Rand... so yes I prefer it... In LA the going rate is 200 dollars an hour... those clients do score a lot punting in SA for half the price
