Interesting fact.
Herpes is spread by skin-to-skin contact with someone who carries the virus. That means you can get herpes by touching, kissing, and oral, vaginal, or anal sex. People who carry herpes don't always know they have the virus, and they may not have any visible sores on their skin.
Maybe check your facts. I am not a doctor either but my understanding is that Genital Herpes (mostly HSV-2 but sometimes HSV-1) is hosted in the special skin type only found in / around the genitalia, anus and mouth. You need to be infected at one of these areas. Once infected the herpes sores can manifest on other parts of your body but you have to distinguish between the site of infection and the site of the sore. So it then follows that you are unlikely to get genital herpes from going down on a man or woman but very likely to get it when someone goes down on you (ie receiving oral is more dangerous than given oral). The virus cannot live outside the human body (and there are no known animal vectors) for very long which means that even if someone had to touch his/her genitalia and then touch you down there, you are probably still safe. Full-on sex is obviously the most dangerous and condoms do not protect against herpes.
There is some stigma around herpes. It really is nothing more than a cold sore down there. Some people can get it bad and experience pain but it is the exception.
