Im not taking sides here - im only an occasional punter -maybe 3 or 4 times a year. I dont ever negotiate and often give extra. Its usually maybe just R50 or R100 but as payment is usually done upfront, in essence I am tipping for service I don't know is good or not.
Durban guys have been stereotyped as negotiators (altho lots of ladies say it isnt so) but on the flip side many Durban sp's are labelled as clock watching scammers (again exceptions do exist).
Maybe the guys who negotiate do it as a safety measure in case the punt is merely average, they at least, would have got their negotiated moneys worth.
A vicious circle I say -as perhaps they would get better value if they paid full price BUT I can confirm, that I've had a fair bit of disappointing experiences even though I pay full asking price and even more.
Durban sp's need to up their game I feel. It will take time for sure, but create your brand and stick to your price.
Provide great service that makes a customer want to become your regular - and im sure you wouldnt have to entertain the negoitators.
Just my un-negoitated 2cents worth plus a tip added:-)
