Here at Joyville we eat alot of "wors en eiers...wat nog vars aan die boer hang" lol...but jokes aside.. Joy gives us well balanced meals everyday and when I started here, she said she'll help me with a meal plan. She did that and still encourages me everyday. I even recently started gyming, as eating right and exercise is very important for overall health xxx

Spot on! My vetgat comes from my cooking at home! Greek, Italian, Persian, Boer and English dishes. It's an expensive delight that Joyville affords me! Although, I will make a plan soon with Joy and her eating plans, she says winter isn't the right time to start new eating habits so I'm taking advantage while I can!

It's frighteningly easy to gain a little extra over winter! People tend to move less and eat more over the cold seasons. This of course affects you regardless of whether you hit KFC every evening or cook for yourself. Also with the extra layers of clothes etc., you tend not to notice extra weight as quickly as you would in skimpy summer wear.

Basically though, once you're over 30 you really should be doing some kind of exercise at least once a week. Your body is less responsive to fitness/diet changes as you get older, so if you want to stay young (ha!) you need to keep it sharp.

My rule (summer or winter) is NEVER eat after 6pm. (Okay, within reason... if I'm invited out or something then of course I'll make an exception.)

Whatever you eat or don't eat, whatever exercise you do or don't do, it's good to at least maintain an awareness so that you stay more or less the way you personally feel most comfortable.

Winter-time especially...! Can sneak it onto you without you even realising. Next thing you know, you're standing on a scale and sobbing at the sight of those numbers! A moment to avoid, I think...!

Spot on Lindsay. But people should not always assume people pick up weight just because of food alone. Some people have health conditions etc that aggravate all you mentioned above. The battle becomes twice as hard for them, but we should all stay a size that we are comfortable with. I have made peace with how I look whether big or small. Both have advantages and disadvantages. I love my big boobs and butt, but I can also feel the difference in my feet, legs, back and my stamina. It's uncomfortable, so I will lose it again for my own health, but one step at a time! I love cooking and enjoying food, so it will take some time, but looking at Julia and even Tanya at Joys and how much they have lost since meeting them, I know it's possible.

I agree with the ladies, eat healthy where possible, try not to eat to late at night! If you do exercise try do it as early in the morning as possible, that way your metabolism gets a kick-start and you burn more fat during the day. And obviously try have as much fun as possible while 'suffering' through all of this........;)
