www.ibtimes.co.uk/south-africas-sex-workers-are-lured-by-cash-face-lethal-risks-beyond-disease-addiction-1555028

What I found most interesting was how different this was to my own experience.

Yes, Joburg has many "brothels" and massage parlours and the like, but I haven't been to any filled with Eastern European women. Most of the women I've seen are South African, as are most of the women on this site.

I definitely haven't seen a venue that meets that criteria show up on ESA, to my knowledge.

That article looks like a load of shit,it's like from the comfort of her soho office block in London she surfed a couple of the pay up front sites (scams) and then read an article on IOL and then used the cut and paste "prostitution" is bad template, published it and then went for lunch...

".......most large brothels are owned by gang members using massage parlours and gentleman's clubs to front a darker secret."

Thats mostly true.

"Some houses accommodating a number of women will host events serving as a networking opportunity for clients and escorts to mingle, get to know each other over a casual dinner, drinks and drugs. It's a chance to thank the clients for their business and incentivise loyalty. Often times the children of the prostitutes will be at these parties too"

😲😲😨😨

"Sex isn't necessarily the goal with these meetings; most of the time it's a case of very lonely men [or men whose social or religious standing means this must be a deeply kept secret] looking for a companion to enjoy illegal drugs with."

Poorly researched.
Incomplete.
Unbalanced. (no interviews with punters). 1 interview with 1 photographer, and 1 interview with 1 dancer hardly constitute the industry.
Prejudiced. (Looks like they already had a pre-conceived opinion and now merely wanted to prove it).
And definitely not as it is.

Would luuuuuuv Gerrie Nel to cross-examine all three, the journalist, the photographer and the dancer.

Its Scary to Think there some truth in it as i have heard some story's from girls in the industry. But that is big clubs and venues in SA. what i dont like is that they make all WG and punter look like druggies and murderers. Truth be told i would believe if they say 10% of the industry is like that. Why this industry is so big is lack of jobs form our crappy government.

But most venues (90%) in SA is 1 owner with 3 or 4 girls trying to earn a living honestly.

In Reply To The Article:

Oh my word.....How absolutely naive the journalist was and obviously will always be! Such a lack of knowledge and insight.

Most of us Wg's are just trying to earn a living. It is so sad to see that they think so "little" of us Wg's and the Punters, our wonderful supporting Clients.

I guess no matter how educated one is, living the life of a Wg, would be the most insight one could ever
wish for, spoken from experience.

As for the drug's and money laundering and illegal weapons, well, I guess this is all based on 'one' or 'two' places visited by the journalist I would assume. Therefore, to assume all "places" are the same is extremely naive and very poor judgement.

I sincerely hope this journalist makes more than enough money to cater for his / her family, as one day this very journalist, may have to enter into the business as a second income? Perhaps then, the article would be completely rewritten and adjusted to the beautiful Truth.

Just our opinion.....!!!!

Hi @SantonPlaymates, thank you for your reply to this, as you so politely put it, "naive" journalist. Why, are "they" forever writing these horrible stories, where, I am sure, there so many wonderful stories of fulfilment and happiness (and decent incomes) to be told! May he have many sleepless and guilty night, for telling such an one sided story, as gospel!

Its not. Just this particular journalist but worldwide journos focus on the negativity around sexwork probably cos sensationalism sells. I follow several people from around the world on twitter and they are of the same impression that reporting on sexwork is almost always based on generalisation and sensationalism. Some of the best twitter accounts re sexwork - @harlotsp, @whoretograher, @elenajeffreys, @iaaswa, @scarletalliance, Among others.
