Oh it’s going to be awesome!
Probably 35 + degrees, 12 – 14 hour days Saturday and Sunday surveying in a dust bowel outside of Phalaborwa. Living for the dream of an ice cold beer that won’t materialise until I get back home.
There will be some relief from the heat though as I’ll be working with the kind of people that leave me cold. I’ll also be testing the theory that you cannot know what a good time is without having bad times to compare them against, so that will be fulfilling.
The accommodation will be superb! Exceptionally well-priced (cheap) with amazing access to South African wildlife (rodents snakes etc) and food provided by Shoprite or some similarly high class emporium.
The idea of a weekend spent in the company of a group of sullen dudes that want nothing more than to tell you how bad their life is and how it shows no hope of improvement will be an absolute joy I’m sure.
My blessings cannot be counted but include amongst other things, not having to listen to singing around the campfire, worrying about whether DSTV will get the commentary sorted for the Boks game, or having be a decent caring individual.
If anyone fancies coming along just ask. I can promise you a weekend of total tedium, sweat induced crotch rot, grit in everything you eat, and the company of individuals that would make the Pope change his mind about contraception.
I can’t wait!
