Let's invent some excuses

Please help with some ideas to address the following possibility:
Suppose I go punting in the part of town I have no business being in and I'm spotted by wifey's mate who then tells her "I saw your hubby at such-and-such place".
If wifey asks, what sort of excuses could one give?
One that comes to mind is that I went to look at such-and-such that was advertised on gumtree but did not like it.
Could you come up with other plausible excuses? I know you are a creative lot on this site.

Depends where it is.... but also road was so freaking busy, i decided to take differnt route from normal.
Heard/Read about a special on XXX at store YYY and decided to go check it out.
