What amazes me is that guys can remember that far back. I started punting in the late 2000s but I will be darned if I can remember prices from then.

2009 was my first one on discovering the purple pages.

Was 750 if memory serves me right. One of the more higher priced SP's of said time (my student budget suffered)

Miss the lass as I think we all remember to a certain extent our first punt. May she RIP. SS you are dearly missed.

I remember 450 and 550 over 2 decade's ago so I am a bit baffled when guys expect this rate or when ladies Charge this or less because Gosh get with the program the economy has Changed drastically.

Personally I love thriving and not surviving. Over 2 decade's ago it was expectable because you could go to the shop with 200 bux and bought a shit load of stuff and still gotten change today it can't even by a tank of fuel or even a 9 kg gas bottle

Was sitting here yesterday reading this and thought our poor rand had lost so much value over 30 years...

In 1994 a bread had cost R1.88.

Today that same bread will cost you R18.99

That is 10 times what it cost back then.

Our rand back then was on. +/-3.61 to a $ now we at +/-18.64 to a $.

With the equvalent of 1 $ back then you could almost buy 2 breads now 1$ wont even buy one bread.

Salaries had also increased too, someone that might have earned 1500 a month back then now earns 15 000 a month.

Yet they "poorer" now than they would have been in 1994 ,because our rand had lost its buying power it is litteraly cut in half almost since 1994.

By reading some comments here and elsewhere the avarage price was about 100-150 in 1994 for a hour.

Which should make 1000-1500 the fair market value today.

Yet the majority of the ladies in the industry still charge 500-800.

And some guys still think when a lady charges a 1000 or 1500 she is expensive.

Why is that?

Not debating fair price, but you cannot derive a fair price using one item which suits you. If i for instance use data prices, it is probably now lower than in 1994...
Which, using your methodology, suggests SPs should charge less than in 1994.
That would be absurd, but just to point out to be careful with your methodology.

You need to use a representative basket (like the consumer price index) to inflate 1994 prices to current prices.

@vrik.. i was waiting for the financial gurus to come tell me how flawed my comparison was;) and i know my coparison is over simplified and might even be totally wrong. ;)

Somone very wise once told me..if you want the right answer post the flawed or wrong answer and someone will come and correct it for you;)

That said.. i would not compare "data prices" to SP prices.. data was a new thing in 1994 and still had to go through years to find its fair market value and still is....where as "sex for sale" had been well established by then and had already found its fair market value by 1994 just like a loaf of bread;)

True that! Many punters here started punting well before '98... Cant imagine the value of the rand back then as I myself, was not so much of a thought
