As a side note, people often use the name "Holland" incorrectly when referring to the Netherlands. Holland is a region/province of the Netherlands, not the whole country itself.
But apparently over the years, it has become acceptable to use the two names interchangeably, the Dutch themselves do it nowadays.

"Holland" is far less of a mouthful than "the Netherlands", which is why most people refer to the Netherlands as Holland. The Dutch mostly refer to themselves as Nederlanders, Hollands if they happen to be from The Noordholland or Zuidholland provinces...
