@Le Roux, sorry to hear about your wife's knee. I hope she'll get better soon. We pay through our nose for medical aid and medical services in this country. The government should focus on fixing the public health care system. NHS is a good idea, but what about the billions already wasted through incompetence in the current public health care system. Now we'll be taxed even more for NHS with no guarantee that the money won't be wasted and stolen there too.
With regard to your house, I feel your pain, home ownership is just one massive expense. Although I was much better off when I owned sectional title, a free standing house is a black hole, you never know what is going to break next. Bought a newly renovated house, but still always something to be fixed or done. At least you've paid off the bond, that's my next focus, but I've still got a long way to go.
Economic conditions are tough here in SA, and it's going to get worse. The current government is doing a terrible job at creating growth so business continues to suffer and no jobs are created. More and more is being spent by government, particularly on its large wage bill, and we are being taxed more to pick up the tab, with little focus on stopping the theft of our tax money. What about the billions that are wasted and gets stolen. Let's stop the theft first and there will be a lot more money in the purse before taxing us more.
@Samdidtwo, why don't you try banting. I've seen some amazing testimonies the past week or so from people with diabetes. Look after your health. Do what the doctors say, it's tough being so young and having to struggle with a major health issue. I'm also still relatively young, not yet 40, and I've been there, it sucks, and can become depressing. But you've got to stay positive and tackle it head on, don't let it dictate your life. The more you stress and become depressed about it, the worse it will get. There is so much information out there these days, read up and educate yourself about your condition.
