Maybe this has nothing to do with punting...maybe it does. Bit of a delayed reaction...only now that I'm pissed off beyond belief.

Took a gorgeous lady for dinner and drinks to the News Cafe in Rivonia last night. Had a lovely meal, great music /atmosphere and awesome company. Had 1 Draft with my meal, not the best of drinkers, but my companion had maybe one or two more, because she wasn't driving. Left News Cafe by 23h30.... and past a JMPD double cab bakkie along the way. Didn't speed, skipped no red lights...no erratic driving. Everything was fine. Stopped at a red light and the fuckers pull up next to me. We were having a cigarette and the windows were rolled down. Looked over and see the JMPD guy looking at me. Gave him the normal "what the fuck are you looking at" look and when the light turn green it was just sirens and the driver signalling for me to follow him.

So...stopped at the next red light on the pavement and the driver came up to my vehicle. Asked if I have been drinking and I had no problem telling him "Yes..1 draft". He asked for my licence and said he'll ask his partner what to do with a "1 draft" case like mine. He came back after about 1 minute...all worked up and tell me they are going to test me...and to follow him to their vehicle. Did that and then the fucking threats and kak started. "Everybody say just one beer". "I'm going to test you and if you're over the limit we are going to book you". "Listen. I am the man here" (said this about ten times... the fucking man". At first I said they can test me...and then I started to think...."what IF I'm over the limit by 0.00001%?".."I know it cannot possibly be. But what IF"?

So then they started to ask how much money I have... Told them just a bank card..no cash. He repeated a few times that he is indeed the fucking man at that specific scene. And what about my "wife" in my vehicle if they lock me up? When they started talking about her...I just thought "no fucking way". Said I'll give them R200, with which they were very happy. Had to borrow the R200 from my lady friend (gave it back to her 10 minutes later). The JMPD guys left the scene and my evening ended on a very low point.

So...after that long story.....What is the best way to handle something like that? What do I do if it happens again (probably will). Will follow the advice I can get here....So if you say "drive over the idiot's foot"....you are all going to read about it in the papers in the not too distant future.

Thanks

So if you drank more than one beer I usually know you have to bribe ... if you know u can pass the breathe test and you are 100 % sure your blood alcohol is minimal I usually say no problem officer you can take me to the district surgeon (the doc who draws the blood) the minute they find out I know all procedures they back off. If you know your drunk then only u angle for money.

That's how I handle it.

But these days I won't lie with Uber and Taxify if I'm going out and I know I'll drink I just use Uber that way u know your sorted. Even if your with a girl an Uber black is easy :)

I personally think Uber is the way to go for the peace of mind.

get a hidden camera in your vehicle...get yourself business cards made up stating that you are a attorney ...offer him your services for a price after you showed him the footage recorded on your hidden camera (reverse bribing )
If you ever get caught for speeding or whatever,he will ask you your occupation ,tell him you are a prosecutor ...you will get him thinking...worked a few times for me

It happened to me aswell, I'm alone so just let them bribe me, it's freaking scary. But one day, they are going to try the wrong person, yes maybe going to jail, but on the end of the day, it's going to be worth it.

This is a common occurrence. Late night stop and harassment by police even if people haven't been drinking. Usually the threat of throwing you in the back of a van full of barbarians for some trumped up charge is enough to extract a nice bribe from anyone.

Only in South Africa do the average law abiding citizen fear their own police force. Guess we are becoming more and more just like the rest of Africa.
