Ok - this post has nothing to do with punting but always enjoy the ideas that come from this site on a range of topics.

Driving to Durbs last weekend and can't understand how many cars still drive seriously quickly in the average speed prosecution areas.

Are they being fined?

Is this system working?

I have been down to the coast a couple of times over the last two years and I do believe that I should have been fined at least twice.

I'm still waiting. My question is a little different. In a 120 zone, how fast do you have to go to be fined. I leave my GPS on 127 kph and I have never been fined.

Any info will be helpful.

Great idea. I set my cruise control on 129 in 120 zones and so far so good

You get a 10km/h "grace" area for speedometer accuracy.

I also use the error margin setting my cruise control about 8kph above the limit, but these okes were easily doing 20kph higher.

The new(?) 100kph limit from Warden to Harrismith is ridiculous.

100kph is very slow, but that area is prone to mist. And with the potential for animals wandering around. I'm sure they had reasons for the limit.

But on a sunny morning with a clear road and muscle under the bonnet.......

100kph will drive you crazy

These speed-obsessed primitives (and there are many) who infest our highways and byways are the cause of so many deaths.

What's wrong with driving at 100 km/h ?

Its mainly the slow drivers who cause accidents. People who venture out on a once a year journey and "are out of their depth" on the freeway and insist on keeping at 100k/ph on the the fast lane. If fast cars are sold with large engines/braking system, why not drive faster if it is safe to do so??
Many prudes who try to be police on the roads, cause major accidents. Truck drivers and mass transport vehicles should be policed. They have a reputation for taking multiple lives. As usual they also have a strong lobby in government who will therefore never get it right.

By the way I do Dbn/Jhb at least once a month. I only travel at night with running lights off & switch off the lights totally @ the av. speed cameras. They don't have infra red so can't photograph you. I've never been fined yet by av. speed cameras.
Also, grundies who are on esa, should never pretend to be law abiding citizens for things such as fast driving, then have extra marital sex with working girls!
Just my 2c bit!!

Below is a quote for an article on the web

The most accidents per 1.000 kilometers happen within city limits. The average human damage per accident is highest on country roads. Autobahn tracks are the safest roads in Germany. The fact that they are safer than freeways in most other EU countries is a very strong argument against a general speed limit.

And as far as ESA member is concerned, yes I have driven pretty fast to make a booking that I was running late for.

I blame the girls.....
