I need some help in getting my money back.
I needed the services of a Private Investigator and was referred to Mike Sears of 7Arrows Security Company in Wynberg, whom in turn referred me to his personal P.I.friend "Dave". I paid R9000 deposit to Dave's account Goldfever Trust on 15/2/2016.
He insisted on me paying another R3000 before he would commence and I thus cancelled the request for his services and asked for a refund.
Subsequently both Mike and Dave have ceased communicating with me- and I am R9000 out of pocket. What can be done?

Get a lawyer, or if it's too costly, go to small claims court to claim your money back.

No, don't let them get away with it, they rely on people doing nothing. Do whatever you can legally and name and shame Mike and his friend on sites like Hellopeter. Hit them from all angles, the legal route and their reputation. They expect you to do nothing, like the last person they scammed.

Mynx, i'm no expert but you need to put together all the info and documentation you have, what instruction was given, proof of payment and see what expenses, if any, have been incurred by "Mike" and "Dave. 7 Arrows has a website should you need more info.
If still no joy, I would think among your options are the police, small claims court or even see if there is a governing/umbrella body which oversees the industry, for some form of recourse.

Did you just get screwed by a Private Dick ????

Obviously open a case but if it's a fly by night Dick then you are really screwed .
One advantage you have is you paid via bank and not cash . That way you can still substantiate your claim. Get a lawyer .

Thank you for all the awesome ideas. I have indeed found a governing body, and I will be sending all my proof through to them, as well as Hellopeter. And I shall make the lawyers appointment too.
Jip...not going to let them get away with it, because that gives them the freedom to keep doing it. I recall a quote, although not the author: Great atrocities are committed when good men stand by and do nothing.
I shall also keep you all posted on my progress.
