From the looks of it, seems like a WG can choose that option. I'm fully with you though, it should be against policy since it defeats the purpose of the comments section.

Advertisers who had the disabled function in place before the time the new policy came into place (I think early 2012) were allowed to keep it in place.
@ honeybear you are 100% correct, anyone before a certain period still has the right to it had they had it disabled before (the older advertisers that did not have it before do not have the option now either). Anyone after that time does not have that option, There are very few that had their comments disabled.
I expected that hansxxx. The old days when the wg's could get away with anything without any recourse and the punters have no one to tel and no one to warn them.
