I think probably the main reason is that a punter who is secretive about his punting lifestyle is affraid he bumps into someone he knows. Initially he thinks it sounds awesome and says he's in but then the boner subsizes and starts thinking rationally again and gets cold feet.

Never replied to orgy requests, but I would say:

1) Punters are scared they bump into someone they know. Imagine you bump into your father-in-law...akward!
2) Some guys may be scared that they will have the smallest totty in the room.
3) Orgies or gang-bangs are just not everyone's cup of tea.
4) Nerves. Even some seasoned punters get on their nerves before every punt. Imagine the stress those guys will feel when they have to meet with and perform in front of other people.
5) Other body issues. Porn movies show a bunch of well built, strapping and well endowed lads tackling equally well built pretty ladies. That leads the scrawny or hairy or balding or chubby guys to think that all the people attending a real world event will be endowed 'like in the movies'.
