Goerge Orwell's book - 1984 is causing quite a stir.

Latest news - University slapping a trigger warning on the book.

Considering.... "The primary theme of 1984 by George Orwell is to warn readers of the dangers of totalitarianism. The central focus of the book is to convey the extreme level of control and power possible under a truly totalitarian regime. It explores how such a governmental system would impact society and the people who live in it."

One wonders why, all of a sudden, university going students would find some of the material offensive.

Big Brother is watching us carefully and will do whatever it takes ..." to diminish the range of intellectual thought and cancel speakers who don't conform to it."

The loudest being the most prolific advocators of freedoms lost and advocators of controlled thinking...totalitarianism most supreme wouldn't one say?

Time to reread 1984....a "prophecy" of 2022...the beginning.

"Envy is the art of counting the other fellow's blessings instead of your own."

Harold Coffin, Ed. Syrett

.....................

Jealousy is an inner consciousness of one's own inferiority. It is a mental cancer.
B. C. Forbes

.....................

envy?...jealousy?

The question

...what is it to be jealous?

...what is it to be envious?

Are those feelings synonymous.... feelings and emotions overlapping with respect to people, situations, belongings?

Can one be envious without being jealous... a pang, sore, wishing one were blessed with the accolades, successes, materialism witnessed around one.

To be jealous, be that a monster green eating away at the fibre of ones well-being, a feeling of entitlement, a possessiveness...sickly without reason or logic?

Be envy less dangerous and less destroying, more easily laughed off and understood for it not deep rooted and destroying of relationships?
Much easily mentioned and spoken of, for some peoples luck be based on being in the right place and at the right time or being born to a life much easier than anothers. Possibly the know how of these people to apply themselves, seek to better themselves with diligent application, their reward being fruition's and growth and progression.
And in that same instant, here be another, slogging just as hard, neither recognised nor acknowledged, same old same old, day in and day out....a resentment setting in....the green eyed monster begins to surface....jealousy....jealousy of anothers success, jealous at how easy they seem to be floating through life when it should belong to oneself, jealous at the looks of admiration an compliments bestowed on the other. Ones behaviour being influenced by the green-eyed monster...lashing out, being unreasonable and critical.
Can a human be without being envious or jealous? Are humans saintly enough to know to experience neither and if that were not possible...then which one be the better of two evils and less soul destroying and an easier burden to carry?

To be jealous be based on lack of self worth and self love...to be envious be based on self pity ...?

Which one is your suffering?

RB I really like you. This is a criticism of the article not you. In my opinion this is a useless article. Some wonk is running a bullshit course at Northampton University and is choosing to warn people that they may be offended by Ableism. I mean I've watched more globally significant episodes of Santa Barbara.

I think:
1) The wonk is crazy and insignificant in this world.
2) Any students taking that course are crazy and insignificant in this world.
3) The Daily Mail are trying to wind their readers up.

Getting angry about this is as futile as getting wound up by the militias that have been training in the Free State since 1994 waiting for the end of days and the great race war.

There will always be crazy people out there. Let them have at it. Any university student who blindly believes what her lecturer tells her isnt worthy of being called a student.

Dearest dear, most dear ONOT

Thank u for liking me...wink. Your intro made me smile. U do know i more than like u and cannot wait to re-acquaint when in Cape Town in March.

I get what u say BUT...

It is not anger i feel but rather the question being...has one not got the right to be curious, have an interest different and choose?

What may interest me may definitely not interest u.

Philosophy would be rated as one of the most 'waste of time' courses at universities by those of this modern technological world.
Theology would be attacked as a waste of time by those materialistic economists who preach time is money and God does not exist and say things like happy holidays as opposed to merry blessed Christmas.

In English II , second year university in 'our' time , "Alice in Wonderland" was studied. Cross my heart and hope to die. This was a 'tale' of an older married man infatuated with a child of his best friend...so the lecturer said.

As was mentioned fairytales our grandmothers have passed down to us or folk tales among different cultures.
All of them have a strong message to pass on and carry wisdom one will NOT find in technical essays and papers, nor in profit and loss staements and balance sheets or excel spreadsheets.

A whole university course existing on movies etc. and dissecting the tale told, how and what.
I am sure u have noticed the constant release of super hero movies based on COMICS...why?.... because the world is begging to be saved and humans need someting to give them hope...?...plus a tale told within a tale? A lot of psychology, apart from art is applied in cinematography.

One does not have to go to university to question ones right to choice or being blinded and fooled into rubbish spewed across EVERY platform one logs into...it is yours to choose what u wish to believe or not...would u not say.

Life is the BIGGEST university full of lairs, users deceit and definitely a PLONK FULL OF SHIT...wading thru it and coming out sane on the other side is ours to do.

PS> As to the Free state..a worthy study for the scholars i would say...would u not?...without spitting of political venom. On a bigger scale i would say malema and the red beret are no different...just more acceptable it would seem...?... Your opinion? x

DNA interference

So when one thinks of a DNA strand, does it mean anything to the layman on the street? Does one understand the perfect structure, importance and intricacy of what that strand is?

Imagine, every persons DNA structure is different to the next person, giving one the uniqueness of fingerprint and other physical features and attributes...it comes into existence when that little sperm, in its ferocious swim, penetrates a floating ovum.

Now ain't that a miracle. A miracle of life that maybe scientists can explain but, i think, they still scrambling to define and understand the finer details of what a DNA strand truly is and the power of creating such a strand.

The scary part is that man has taken upon himself to play that 'creator' and thus dabbles in mix and match, copycat, trial and error...creating abnormal strands in the name of science.

A slow progressive...not survival of mankind as we know it... but, definite eradication of humanity, that came into existence years beyond our ability to fathom how long ago that really was.
And these humans that have taken upon themselves to play 'creator'...behind closed doors... what be their subject, what be their purpose...and that subject and purpose....is it truly tested on matters synthetic or are we all guinea pigs , in our own small way....toward something unnatural and inhumane.

The argument can be that were it not for science dabbling in the unnatural then much of what humans classify as miracles of the modern world, would not take place.

I wonder if this modern world is what was meant to be when that first living organism came about ....evolution...there are many ways of explaining what evolution may be but, one of the explanations is not the unnatural interference by humans....or is it?

And after listening to the

2022 State of The Nation Address by President Cyril Ramaphosa

This comes to mind...

"There is no thing as a single-issue struggle because we do not live single-issue lives."

Audre Lorde

"""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""

it is time to hear the call
of much corruption be the fall
when hero's past their lives did give
so that the young in democracy can live.

why cower and bend to rule oppressing
when all they do is of citizens suppressing
who be this group of gangsters in power
and yet with accolades we them shower.

remove the dead wood before its too late
don't listen to their shit while the good they berate
take the power back for it is yours rightfully
with the goodness of your intent smite them mightily.

dictators have no place in a system democratic
their selfish greed makes the countries economy erratic
and this at the expense of the man on the street
who helped the idiot to win, in the election compete.

a political party whose mantra lies in freedom
their unselfish fight was not random
it afforded a platform for a constitution worthy of awe
and now the gangster dictatorial does it flaw.

hero's passed spoken of and respected globally
a pride and nationalism felt by all locally
yet to allow an individual this to tarnish
best a national agreement for him to banish.

protect the blood and tears suffered by the elders
toward a fairness free a democracy peaceful, they were the propellers
don't allow their legacy to die
defend it with all of u and the gangsters their corrupt dictatorial success deny.

Coming out the closet...

Why is it that many choose to view a space, an instant, even hearsay... as a given without taking the time or interest to find out more?

What is it that obscures truths and facts and, the choice being one to believe whatever may be out there...floating like a piece of 'shit' on top of water...sinking the credibility of the actual?

What if...hypothetically ...a person or space considered as a threat or taboo may be nothing more than a specialised solution to an intimate problem in ones life.
Specialised solution?...someone who may be a threat...?...a space taboo...?

There is so much in this wondrous world that runs deeper than meets the eye. The unknown factor may know to arouse puzzlement, curiosity and in some cases fear.
When fear becomes the overriding emotion then begins the witch-hunt, the need to brand, name and shame, even if uncalled for.
I have the good fortune of sharing and hearing opinions that would know to raise an eyebrow or two, a space occupied that is so telling and intimate and revealing of humans and the individual sharing.
To sit in judgement of all that i have been privy to, would be a cardinal sin and, a betrayal of the trust, confidence and share placed in my space.

Even though my background exposed me to much and my education is such to give me deep insight into the human psyche, i have learnt that which i thought i knew and understood , and that which i was hesitant about and kept at arms length, was due to social influences and popular belief bandied among the majority....credibility given by the masses.
So much has been reviewed and re-evaluated and looked at from another angle. A new space created in time, affording me the opportunity of learning and sharing and unravelling the mystery and misunderstanding that sensuousness, sensuality and erotica know to carry.

Like anything in life, there is a place and time for everything.
What goes for one does not mean it goes for another but, to label differences of opinion and cycles of change, for ever and ever amen, as unacceptable and a threat to society creates greater havoc and, i believe, leads to further 'deviant' 'behaviour.

Knowing to address and understand that which society may consider as a threat, may lead to a solution rather than further segregation.

Acknowledging and addressing the individual or space pertained as a threat, may reveal much that was hidden and erase the fear factor leading to education of self and those around one.

It takes great maturity of character to know to listen and hear and address anything of the intimate sort that touches ones sensibilities without personalising it, keeping the sensibilities in tact and, at the same time broadening ones understanding and application there-of in ones personal life and space....enriching it beyond expectation.

A change in pace...reality check

To educate a man in mind and not in morals is to educate a menace to society.
Theodore Roosevelt

People ask the difference between a leader and a boss. The leader leads, and the boss drives.
Theodore Roosevelt

The most important single ingredient in the formula of success is knowing how to get along with people.
Theodore Roosevelt

The boy who is going to make a great man must not make up his mind merely to overcome a thousand obstacles, but to win in spite of a thousand repulses and defeats.
Theodore Roosevelt

Great thoughts speak only to the thoughtful mind, but great actions speak to all mankind.
Theodore Roosevelt

The unforgivable crime is soft hitting. Do not hit at all if it can be avoided; but never hit softly.
Theodore Roosevelt

The first requisite of a good citizen in this republic of ours is that he shall be able and willing to pull his own weight.
Theodore Roosevelt

Certain principles will always stand the test of time and matters not where and when, who or what.

That saying "No good deed goes unpunished"...

"What is to give light must endure burning
-Molly Guptill Manning.

Said she to her...

"how would u know to be in my shoes,
how would u know my challenges faced my daily dues,
who are u to even contemplate to look my way in pity
do u dare to do so because u feel guilty???
i care not for hypocrites who know not my hunger
i care not for political rhetoric for, it nothing more than a bungler
don't u dare pretend to know my fate
when was the last time u were at MY hells gate??"

Said her to she...

"never such arrogance professed."... came the answer
"what u have just said sounds like terminal cancer
something i wish to disassociate myself from
for i consider myself slightly more intelligent and less dumb.

but if i may, without making u despondent
for u would be quite surprised at the coincident
the reason i with no guilt your way look
for, a few years, out of that same gutter to get,all my courage it took.

yes, i agree political agendas are played by the powerful
and more concern to pump money into wars an armyful
but, then i look at those similar to me who make it
and thus ask, am i so incapable and less fit?

you see, there will never be a system fair
there will never be an equilibrium for all to share
but, one thing i know for definite
the goodness of many individuals can be infinite.

so, sometimes don't read too much in what u may observe
rather your thoughts and opinions a little conserve,
allow a moment to play itself out
and thus in the goodness of others have no doubt."

Losing ones cool ain't cool...?

Losing ones cool ain't cool. Even if the situation be such calling for bombs to explode and and and.....a level headed logical response...after counting to 10....should always the best option be, reaping rewards and dialect further in the distant future.

It leaves doors open to continue finding a road forward, a solution beneficial to all parties involved.

Would those seeking a diplomatic approach, be more mature of character than those bulldozing all and sundry in ones way, when conflict arises?

Having a loud and vocal voice, calling a spade a spade, makes one a problem maker rather than problem solver?

Does pussy footing and potentially sweeping matters under the carpet, lead to a society more amicable and peaceful, all striving to be the better person, cognisant of ones mistakes and thus subtly addressing and changing them, leaving in the wake of such correction, a more peaceful society aspiring to a state of amalgamated understanding of each others differences?

Or, rather... would it be correct to say that each situation is unique and one should know when to be a diplomat and when to have the courage to stand strong and resiliently defiant in the face of people and situations that deserve a direct hit at the core of a threatening stupidity to the intelligence of humanity and all things good.

Having the patience to nudge people and situations toward a harmonious outcome, when feelings unsettled may be bubbling, should be the best approach.

But, what happen,s when the parties involved, are so pig-headed and defiant to any logic or arbitration thus pushing all the wrong buttons leading to an outburst loud, a physical manifestation such a slap in the face, a fight abusive.

Even the most diplomatic of people do have their limits, maturity of character not featuring, and they too know how to lose their cool and call out an idiot, a degenerate, whose sole purpose is to remain defiantly stupid in the face of reason and logic.

So, the conclusion may be .....it may not be cool to lose ones cool.
But... sometime it may be necessary.
