Yeah try punting in aus where nookie is taxed, the brothel owner gets a cut , so do the shareholders and the girl takes home whatever is left, the price for a fuck is ridiculous....
Totally against legalization for this exact reason...

@honeybear... I cannot and will not understand willfull destruction. There simply no logic that can applied to make me see it as anything but destruction for the sake of destruction... Now they are saying there's a third force at work ? when there is crystal clear pictures of the students throwing rocks ? and flipping cars on their roofs ?
It is always someone else to blame.

And I am sorry, the whole purpose behind having a vote is to use it for the betterment of yourself and the country. If the people voting cannot see their lives have in fact gotten worse in the last 10 years then maybe they should look in the mirror next voting season and ask themselves if they deserve what they are getting for the votes they are making...

These students are all over the age of 18. They are under the law fully adult and should in fact be treated as such. They can now vote, own a gun, drive a car. Yet we are expected to simply look at the destruction and do nothing when they torch property that is not theirs, when they assault other students. When they take on debt we are expected to simply forgive it because they are kids.

Bullshit, I am expected to pay my debts, so must they.

The worst though for me is when they get dealt with by the police, they run around crying to the media about heavy handedness but they have failed to understand that this is part of being an adult. If you step over the line, you are going to get swatted. If you throw stones at the police and threaten them, they are gong to moer you.
Seems pretty logical to me and if a university student can't understand such a simple concept then maybe he shouldn't be there.

That's just Oz, everything there is expensive... everything. I would also suggest going independent in places like OZ, it is a less expensive option.

Well put Valentina. I always enjoy your writings because make people think and because they're always mix with personal stories which make it interesting.

I am with Deamonsa and Val on this one.
There is nothing that can ever justify destruction.
And also as Deamonsa said you can't expect to be treated at instances like an adult and others like a child when is convenient to you.

I don't think anyone is condoning the destruction of property or the violence. What i'm saying is that, sadly, it seems to be the only way the government will take notice and act (which it appears it has by freezing student fees).
I look at it from another angle though, and that is the thirst to be educated, which is what i embrace.
As for voting, ANC will lose votes but remain in power. As I've said before, with our turbulent, unjust history engrained in most of our disadvantaged citizens, they will still vote for the party that liberated them.
A victory for the opportunity for education, which to me in the long term outweighs the manner in which it was achieved.

I am sorry, if these "kids" are all as smart as they claim then they must understand how democracy works. The reason the ANC has not changed things is that they know they can count on the vote no matter what they do, because the vote in SA is a failed idea where people are not holding them accountable with their vote, but violence. Why would the ANC change this, it suits them to the T.

You say a victory for education, but at what cost ? please remember there is now a precedent set where if you want something, burn everything down and break stuff. I fail to see the benefits in this.

honeybear, I must politely demur from your sanguine opinion.

If once you give way to mob rule, it will always end badly.

SupermanV: "We absolutely need this power generation capacity <nuclear> developed, there is no choice anymore"

Correct, now emphasize 'development'. Instead of wasting monies on pebble-bed reactors they'd better develop Thorium burners (socalled liquid salt) which is intrinsically safe (really!), almost ambient pressure, burns 100% of the fuel (no costly recycling) and has little safe waste. Both China and India are using it, we should too as we still have the capacity to do it, rare earth's included!

@Zerocool09... It's called pandering to the lowest denominator, ala Donald Trump.
These youth are a massive voting block for the ANC and unless they are occasionally seen to outwardly support these movements while still ordering in the police then that's just gravy for them.
The leading party has taking some serious hits these last few years and now need to really out out all the stops to keep the votes in the favor of a parliamentary majority.

Now with all the legal shenanigans, that they insist on losing, their position is even more precarious... things are going to get very real before the next election.
