brent... here i do not agree with you .. the laws protect thebandits so much that if we were to abide them to exactly the wording ??? we will be dead so my first priority in all cases will be to protect myself at all costs as i think once i get killed by someone that obviously has no regard for any law where will i have any chance of survival if i abide to the stupid laws that give those bandits the upper hand ?? i think not.. no way jose... if i get threatened and depending on the severity of the attack i will no doubt try to defend myself ..first and foremost.. no law is gonna bring me back if i get killed.

Very true Italian...I myself will do exactly as you, I will protect myself before any individual can cause harm wherever I am, its our innate survival tendency to do so, and especially when it comes to my family I would without a doubt risk going to prison in the name of their protection without considering the law and the repercussions as long as they are safe.

Its just that the laws are so that one must be able to prove so and so beyond a reasonable doubt, this you must always keep in mind before you act... in other words make sure you can prove that you had no other choice and that the use of a weapon was an absolute LAST RESORT, or at least that the likelihood of death or harm was either high or inevitable - but you must be able to prove it, not just say so or know so. Thats all I meant.

Dont know if you own any weapons and I dont expect you to disclose that on a public forum, but I suggest you look into the gun laws and the requirements for ownership as well as the scenarios in which you may use your gun be it for self defence, hunting, or sport shooting...they are quite stiff and though they have value in terms of ensuring that the firearm owner is up to scratch, it also makes things like the situation under question a bit sketchy to prove that the use of a FIREARM and not some other non-lethal weapon or means to safety was a necessary course of action, as in this case the Nigerian Mr Doos did not brandish a firearm or any weapon BEFORE the guy took out his glock himself, he (Mr Doos) only threatend to f*ck up the guy and in a court a lawyer can use this fact that the guy brandished his firearm first before Mr Doos with great success, trust me. A lawyer can argue that an unnecessary attack was provoked by this Glock, as thats how it will seem given the evidence. And I would disagree with such evidence as I understand nigerian druglords and pimps, and guns and the need for them. In our laws you cannot pull out your weapon for such a case, simple. Even though you have a sound mind to be able to predict and discern, the law sees you as the perpetrator if you brandish your firearm first in certain situations like this because you are the provoker not the victim (so perceived).

Now, I see it as fit to have done that, but most of the law officials are idiots, unfortunately those idots can send you to jail or revoke your license. As I said I and most gun owners understand this scenario as one that called for a weapon, but the officials seem to be incapable of lateral thinking and of thinking of hypothetical out-of-ordinary situations, and just play things by the book.

I have experience with such and understand the governors of these laws as for the most part, and saving for the dedicated and logical individuals within, quite incapable of comprehending the call for self-defence outside of the written laws that stipulate when or when not to act...as they only pass the laws, and do not have to live with guns themselves or in areas that require the use of guns so they dont understand certain things etc.

I see your point as rellavent and valid, its only unfortunate that you must still becareful about when and where you pull your gun out, especially with the new laws. Thats a fact.

Just remember Italian that you have a good point and I agree with you, however you must adhere to legislation, it is what law-abiding citizens do when they own firearms, one cannot get around that. This is by no means an attack on you please understand that.

Pumkeater:

As an SA national it is your right to apply for a weapon for self defence such as a semi-auto or single or double action handgun. Approval by the SAPS of such is never guaranteed in SA but you have the right to apply - success lies in the detail and supporting documentation of your motivation to own a weapon. Obviously do not ever use the punting scene to justify your ownership but rather 'home defence'. Use a lawyer or one of the many companies that can help you with firearm motivation to help you with your SAPS 271 application form (ask any gunsmith for direction). Once you own a gun legally and on your name, it means you would have been trained by an accredited shooting academy recognised by the SAPS where such academy has an FAR number bla bla bla etc and then you can carry the weapon concealed on your person to your punting destinations and use it when attacked by another party with a weapon.

Buy a 2nd-hand steel slide semi-auto handgun of AT LEAST 9mm as it can be quite cheap (+-R2500) and effective (nobody has to own a Glock or a Roni converter) against any nigerian or deadly wg with a deadly weapon.

Remember: The SAPS, neighbourhood security forces, armed response services, or other 'guards' are there to protect you as well. Just keep your eyes open and always look for an exit strategy before-hand.

cupid , she says you made up the story...to boost your ego.

To say an honest truth I do not have the courage to venture into a negro ruffian's den .
- for a cheap bout with his smelly Moll , who , you say did an injury to your nose with the foul odour emanating from her person.

You can never know whether there is a pimp or nigerean living with the wg until they.allow you to see them, they only show their muggs when they try and intimidate you and demand money. Otherwise they are in the other room or other part of the house and you are none the wiser.

"Hand on my steal,
Coz them haterz on my heals"

Nice one Cupid, had a run in with some Niaja boys myself a while back and found myself wishing I had a piece. I was holding my own until a second one (approx. 6"4')came in from outside. Had to back down and focus on getting out unharmed!
