if we accepted every call from private numbers, than the timewasters we have blocked or the predators we've steered clear of seeing, might then just as well call from a private number, thus higher risk of danger and at the absolute least, a vastly higher chance of burnout

Personally I don't answer calls from unknown/private numbers because:
They never ever booked, and when they did they never showed up.
No way of blocking and avoiding future time wasting, with that said I'm not in the business of selling numbers either.
I take bookings from Telegram/Whatsapp/direct calls/SMS even (considering Signal now),I do respond to emails and pms on ESA as well...

No guarantees in this I know many wgs that have had their phones stolen some good and some questionable and the calls started. I got these calls from both.

I'm any case, just get and use a punting SIM. I have my SIM switched off and WhatsApp permanently on mute as I only need to communicate when I want to like enquiring for a booking or making a booking. I see the missed called from Captain Super Peos or whatever according to Truecaller, block and carry on with like. Even if there's no name, I just assume unwanted and ignore or block as it is my punting phone and I'm not expecting any calls. If there's a wg I'm liaising with at the time, her name will be there and that I'll look at or call back.

Don't let this rule your punting.

Ok, I understand, thank you for exolaining. Problem is that I can't give out my number since it is all over the internet die to my line of work. This poses a privacy issue for my. I am happy to communicate via e-mail though.

Get a pre ricad punting sim that is totally unconnected to you. Use that to make enquiries, bookings etc.

I specifically will recommmend myself here. I have multiple numbers that I have blocked and reported who wanted to buy numbers. My answer is always a firm NO followed by a BLOCK.
