When I read the post by Michelle, my first thoughts were that she was not relating her (sister's) story, what with references to Florida and Congress etc. but had copied someone's else's and was just trying to warn people of a product found in everyday life. I was surprised not to see the author's name at the end but assume(d) that was just overlooked.
The topic of Aspartame is something that always 'fuels the fire' with vehement proponents and opponents. Some studies have claimed it to be detriment to one's health with many adverse side effects (even the infamous Gulf War syndrome) while other studies claim to refute the opponents claims.
As for one's opinion on Aspartame, much depends on one's experiences, beliefs and viewpoint on refined foods and products.
When in doubt, I follow the money trail and ask who or which institution is benefitting the most thereby!
