See this as an occupational hazard that comes with the territory. Having some form of martial arts training does not help if you knocked back a couple of drinks. Heck, many drunk guys think they are the 'Next Karate Kid' while under the influence and it never ends well.

You were jumped while trying to separate a fight or anything along the lines. Whatever story you choose, stick with it.

There is no reason not to trust the OP that he got "bliksemed", and yes it should never have happened.

Have met plenty of guys that become more brave and stronger with each drink, I am not so sure we have heard both sides of the story here. Doubt if the OP will admitt if he did not challenge the "ex" and now suffer the consiceinces of his bravado
