Doc63 -- interesting metaphor, but I guess our tastes differ -- I'm not a skaapkop and pap guy, but I do enjoy shisanyama depending on the heat (hotter is definately better). Nothing wrong with skaapkop -- 40 years ago it used to be served in the homes of the wealthy.
As for sushi, I will sometimes pass, especially raw oysters, but love fish & chips -- linefish "catch of the day" especially if it's kabeljou. I am not a trotters and tripe guy, but find it difficult to resist feijoada, trinchado and caldo verde. Homemade sauerkraut and kaessler rib are great but I find viener schitzel rather bland.
So it's really difficult to stereotype peeps and their fancies.
In a global village, hedonists do not eat soley because of hunger, but because they can, and they consume foods that give them pleasure.
Sometimes it is also the kitchen and the manner in which they are served -- breyanis and puri pata are by far best served (and best tasting) in the home of a skilled host, so I realised that, whilst pretty good, Akhalwayas wasn't the shizz after all. It is not always our perception of taste -- sometimes it is also due to wisdom. And that makes me to conclude that, in general, food is pretty poor in comparison to a woman, but certainly a good companion to an encounter with one.
