Maybe it did or my car's engine noise was a nuisance because the gate eventually got opened. Even though I didn't see anyone

This whole story is very strange as there is only 5 units there and by knocking at anyone of them you would have found who you looking for as it is very personalized and all five units besides number 2 which is the caretakers brother is occupied by working girls. They all know each other.

Sorry to hear about your incident.
You should've knocked on any door as here is only 5 rooms .surely even the lady your appointment was with might have opened her door .
Being stuck is never nice, the gate opened due to sensors ( when u near the gate it opens automaticly)
