Very true what you are saying INL ... but the flip side to the coin of choices of words ... speaking without thinking is coming from the heart !!!
I always speaks from the heart without really over thinking my choices of words .. that is who i truly am .. except me or push me away .. nobody is perfect in this world and we must except each other as how we are without sugar coating everything !!!

The choice of shirt is really minimal, unless I wear my :
"I'm too sexy for my shirt" T-shirt
or my Nike one :
"Just do me"
And just a general rule : Never let a ladyfriend wear one of your T-shirts when you make coffee for her in the morning and then go home with it. You will never see it again. Be prepared to write that one off.
Other than that, shirt is a shirt is a shirt.

On a more serious note :
The choices that we make can be categorised in different groups.
One group will be the immediate impact ones, like sugar in my coffee or not, getting up when the alarm goes off, etc. They usually define your own self and are sometimes not as profound or life changing. They are the "usual choices".
The ones that you should be careful of are the ones that will define in which direction you will travel on the road of life. The end result of life is death, to be blunt, but there are many ways in getting there, again not meaning that it should be a goal to die.
The choice of having kids or not. Profound. Life changing. Impacting you for the rest of your life. But do you really think about that when you had a drink too many and you decide : What the hell, let's make that baby.
Getting married these days : 56 % divorce rate. Really want to try that ? Statistically speaking those are not good odds.
That debt you are making and paying off over 5 years. Will you still be able to pay that in two years time ? What if you can't ?
