Why is there a stigma attached to HIV, but not to cancer for example?

Simple. The stigma is the assumption that only promiscuous people get HIV.
And we punters are indeed promiscuous but don't want the world to know

Personally know/knew more than 5. A guy at work I know is positive. He got sick recently, lost a lot of weight. Surprisingly he doesn't have a problem in finding a new BF every now and then.

Coupla points...
The stigma comes from "exposure to the public" that the infected dips with no gloves on as probably 90% of (just a guess) cases are from some sexual encounter of sort!

I think he wants to know the realistic probability of a successful transmission after a particular exposure.

Anyone to add on discordant couple cases bla bla??

Having worked in Human resources, I saw many fall to HIV/AIDS and in my personal capacity, around 4 people I knew. Very few will ever admit to their status due to the stigma attached to it and very few are even aware of their status. Denial that it even exists and that one has less chance then others of contracting it is what keeps it going. Ignorance and denial are the worst culprits when it comes to the spreading of it!
