I have lived both lives, and can honestly say clean and sober 12 years and never looked back. Indeed it offers escapism, releif from the daily grind and a crutch to much deeper dis-ease. Once you get out from underneath that "lifestyle" and mindset great things happen. All humans are vunerable to many addictions, sometimes by choice, sometimes by circumstance. Some survive and go on to lead good lives, others drown in many sorrows.
A great talented guitarists band Def Leppard wrote a song called white lightning for him, he played the riff with gusto but alas succumbed to his addiction shortly thereafter.
Just my thoughts nothing further or related to anything anybody posted.
Happy days all.

An addiction robs one of so much.
Steve congratulations....that is no easy feat. Support can help but, also willing oneself in a better place is what potentially leads to success.
I have come across many from all walks of life that have sadly fallen prey to what at first seems nothing more than a " fun" thing......part of the crowd or buckling under peer pressure or daily lifestyle.
My heart heavy .
You are brave to share on this forum. Thank u. Your honesty goes a long way.

It takes patience and understanding in a situation like that
And one thing cassie has right, professional help best to opt for.
Why my comment such?
Well. Some of us do have interesting professional backgrounds.
And apologise and trust if my statement offends...it is not meant to.
As i said....easy to sit in judgement.....i pray i never do.
As they say...never say never....and never presume.

Bridgette, after a few years patience runs out. The only person who can help a drug addict is the addict themselves, this I have from the rehab councillors directly and the huge hole in my bank balance
