I read this post, re-read it again, logged off, thought about it, and finally cannot stop myself from commenting.

I am going to go with my tried and tested laws of economics. Supply and demand. But with a twist since the supply is now not an unlimited source, but a defined weekend with fixed dates. Which makes this a really interesting topic of discussion for a Friday night.

So guys and girls. PB has nothing to do tonight except a charity braai that he is trying to go to as late as possible because he doesn't really want to go. And isn't that a sad statement in itself. To prefer sitting working on your own on a Friday night. But I digress.

So sit back and read or just skip this really useless piece of posting.

Miss S has made an offer to the public. It is the supply side of the coin. She is offering herself , accomodation, GFE, PS, travel and everything in between for a rate of R 13,000-00 for two nights and a day. Is this a good offer ? Lets see.

On the demand side is the punters that is looking for such an opportunity. Overnighters have been discussed at length in a thread called : Overnighters , any recommendations. In that thread I have predicted that rates would drop to R 1,500-00 for overnighters and was taken to the proverbial slaughter to imply such a thing.

Miss S has now boldly gone where none has gone before ? (Where are the Trekkies). Not only upping the rates but making it time sensitive as well.

Does she know what a difficult conundrum this can become.

Let me explain and use an analogy. Airplane seats are cheaper if you book them long before the time. Closer to departure date they become more expensive. On the date of departure they are the most expensive. So Miss S adhered to the principle of making the offer more expensive as time gets nearer, which is in 14 days time. So far so good.

The offer is also alluring, as allnighters are a current topic of discussion. So in terms of timing her offer , no problem there.

But now, the demand. If there is a demand for that kind of offer that Miss S is offering, then good luck to her and someone is going to have a blast.

The same analogy as an airplane seat again. Closer to the time the demand grows for the rwemaining seats, hence the increase in price. Remember that Miss S skipped the part of offering the service at a reduced rate further in the future, so she was taking a calculated risk.

From what I have seen on the forum, I have not seen the demand showing. It might be that most approaches would be made via PM and not via the forum, I wouldn't know. I can only work with the facts at my fingertips.

So if the demand is not there, and the supply is there, then it stands to reason that the price will have to drop. How far will it drop ? Until the price is what we call a fair price for the supplier and the demander (Sampie will cull me for raping his terminology).

So if the two parties can reach a mutual understanding, then a glorious weekend will take place, hopefully reviewed in detail on the forum.

But I see a grave problem. The half empty cup. Actually the grave mistake on the supply side.

THE OFFER IS TIME SENSITIVE.

The seat on a plane on the day of departure is the most expensive that it can be, UNTIL THE PLANE CLOSES IT'S DOORS, THEN THAT SEAT IS WORTHLESS. NADA, NOTHING. It is called : distressed stock.

And in here lies the problem. The offer is for R 13,000-00 , but only until the day of departure. When that departure date arrives, the offer will be woth nothing, nada. It will have no value, as time has run out.

Since my crystal ball has been under attack, I will not venture an opinion now. I just believe that Miss S should have made the offer an open ended one, it would have been much better. Now the time is flying, the tic toc sound of the clock counting down to that inevitable closing time that the offer will have no value.

Miss S, from the bottom of my heart I hope that are successful in closing a deal at your rate, it will blow my theory out of the water.

Your contribution to the forum is great and this was a bold move to promote something like this. I cannot fault your marketing strategy.

Guys, tread lightly and look at the math...

2 Nights accommodation @R1050 = R2100
Food: Friday night, Saturday breakfast, lunch, dinner, Sunday breakfast R1000
Snacks and drinks R500 - R750

Ms S for say 48 hours....

Just imagine her doing the cooking in very little, or doing the dishes and slipping up behind her lol...

Ms S, good luck with your endeavor....I do though think that the current economic climate may not favour all the punters at the price...in fact only a few...

Just say you want someone to pay for your weekend away.

And you say everything is included like the money is coming out your pocket

Give her credit. This type of idea might yet catch on.

Other enterprising wgs can now work out nice weekend away packages. Eg. A hot gauteng based wg can advertise 2 nights over a weekend at some resort/game reserve not more that 2 hours drive away and bundle the venue rates with her fee. It can work becoz currently its us punters who book and pay for the weekend at Mabula then have to look for willing wg to take with. If wgs can do all the admin of booking and paying and just bundle the cost with her weekend rate it can work for guys like me.

Sav

Any takers yet ?

Ash : Mr 17,5 is more price concious than you. And that is his market.

Yours are more expensive. Maybe better. But then it is all relative is it not ?

One man's meat ?

Cheers

Caligula :

Bangkok 3 days
Phuket 7 days

Flights accomodation breakfast : R 9,000-00
Food : R 1,000-00
Drinks (happy hour) : R 1,000-00

Picking up girls at the go go bars : so cheap.

Just to give another alternative.
