How I would love to address your claim on intelligence, impressing ladies and getting laid...

Artists and blinkered idiots...

(H)uman is exactly what is being said by Cohen .

But only with the approval of the OP if he would be prepared to entertain my possible derailing of his original gist of post...or...allow the debate to take a slight u-turn.

The ability to feel or understand what someone else is going through.

This modern world views kindness and empathy and compassion as a weakness making one a target of sociopathic cowardly bullies especially on social media sites and forums.

The sad truth is that those who do have these stellar attributes will "cower" / keep silent instead of sharing in the full might of a united force with others who possess such qualities too.

Why would that be?

Does that make one less human or a hypocrite?

That's why I mentioned the capacity for empathy. Not all humans are, but as a collective, that is what sets us apart.

Without empathy societies don't exist. It allows you to relate to other humans.

I do concede that this does get tricky though with neurodivergent people, who struggle to relate to others, but not out of malice.

I can understand what someone is going through from an intellectual point of view. To be able to feel what they are going through for me is impossible unless I have been in that same situation. To say otherwise would be hypocritical of me.

I also disagree with Cohen here. It is not the flaw that makes us human, it is the flaw that makes us perfectly unique

But you can understand that they may be in a bad place and extend them kindness in some way.

I've fortunately never lost a parent. I don't need to have experienced that to understand that someone telling me they lost a parent will be in a very bad place, and I'd know to extend them kindness in that moment.

In an idealistic world, I'd definitely agree.

I've been highly empathic as long as I can remember. Further than the capacity to understand/share the emotions of others, being an empath means that (even unconsciously, or when thoughts & feelings aren't expressed directly to me,) I do tend to be hyperaware to the energy and emotions they're experiencing, often taking on those feelings as if they're my own.

And because I've been this way my whole life I can't imagine turning it off, But lots of people TRULY can.
Those are literally, Narcissists (I say literally only because of how normalised the word has become).

A key characteristic of NPD is in the inability to feel empathy or extend it to others. Boooyyyy they must sleep SO good though. how peaceful it must be to only concern yourself with what affects/benefits you.

Do not confuse sympathy with empathy...even though both are good characteristics to have but, very different and thus, ageless to me is speaking of sympathizing as opposed to empathising.

Many more people fall into the former rather than latter ....is that why when bullies rear their heads people keep a low profile....sympathising with the victim?....and nothing more?

Does that make people, as you put it neurodivergent...without malice?....self preservatory?

I agree 100%.

Compassion and
** TRUE LOVE ** for one another,
is one of the most profound elements, that makes us humans.

It makes us the most devine entities of existence, in the whole of the universe, as we can understand it....

So ...yes, in my humble opinion, the most tender emotions we feel for ourself and others ,is what set us apart and offers us some sense of redemption...

Let's play devils advocate here.

Is it redemption you seek?

A,selective sort of compassion in instances that suit your sensibility

Or

The ability to feel compassion and empathy no matter the circumstance or person?

As to humans being divine..pls explain ...what does that make of agnostics, atheists, scientologists and the like?

And... then aswell...

We have the capability to make drastic and real changes by only a single choice...

Our ability to adapt and learn...

Our strength and durability to see difficulties through to the end...

And our magical power to sift things by means of perspective and understanding...

Not to leave out ,the incredible strength to forgive and rebuild things , that once seemed lost for good...

Just to see the good and chase after the positive is quite impressive in it self...

We are human... living on the same mother earth... breathing at the same ticking clock.
Many things set us apart...
and yet we have so many thing in common...
We all have only thing,
and that is:
a little bit of time.

As to ** selective ** compassion:
I guess you don't have to entertain anything that doesn't sit well with you...
Meaning, there is no compassion with/ towards ,actual evil intent...

That kind if energy will manifest itself without any assistance.
