Not going to argue that point as I do not know the full history of the culture/issue. Lots of people will base their judgement purely on what is said in the press without even thinking of the cultural side, that is all I tried to say in my clumsy manner ;)

Naledi, I didn't call King Mswati a turd for following tradition. In my view he is a turd because he lives a life of luxury while most of his subjects live in abject poverty and he does nothing to improve their lot. Ditto for Bob the Knob up in Zim. King or president, it doesn't matter. Bad governance deserves the turd moniker. That's just my view and am not deliberately going out of my way to offend. Peace.

@muffman my existance is thanks to the turd and his family's poor governance. My mom was went to exile at 14, found a home, went to school, got married and had me in the turd's country...
Until someone can say swaziland is worse off since Mswati became the King, then you can't see fault.
Its a very small percentage of Swati people who have a problem with the situation back home. You know why???? Because its not a new thing.

This thread has been sidetracked .

Mswati's extravagance is legendary.
Morally decrepit and damnable behaviour considering the abject poverty of his subjects.

Back to the topic:
an amorous intrigue across the colour line was a criminal offense during Apartheid.

Funny how people say thing like Mswati is notorious for being a polygamist. Mswati's extravagence is legendary.... Really?
At his age, his father had over 100 children and probably twice the number of wives as Mswati. Mswati has 15 wives and 24 kids.

And people keep mentioning poverty? Yes swaziland is poor but its not even on the top 15 poorest conutries in Africa. Infact ZAR1 = E1. Its not like Mswati is the King of Sierra Leone.
Western ideals say Mswati is doing something wrong however within the borders of swaziland its customary, its expected and its his birthright.

The spca says slaughtering a cow for traditional ceremonies is cruel

Feminists say lobola and the reed dance makes woman objects

The media says Mswati's spending and polygamy is wrong when people live in poverty...
But Swaziland is not a democratic country

Uncle Ben, I know you have a lot to say about BEE. Let me ask you this, if your skills were needed and King Mswati said to you name your price, would you say NO because Mswati is being extravagent and the people live in poverty?
